Shining Light Speech & Language Services is a pediatric speech and language private practice that specializes in supporting the speech, language, and early literacy development of children in their home and community. We provide screenings, assessments, and therapy in San Carlos, CA and its surrounding cities in the San Francisco Bay area for children ages two through 10. Teletherapy is available throughout California.
We believe success comes from meeting each child where they are at in their speech and language development, building an authentic connection by honoring their individuality, and providing effective therapy using evidence-based practice. Parents, caregivers, teachers, and support professionals are partners in the therapy process. We will work together to help your child become a successful communicator at home, in school, and when having fun with friends and family. We want each child to SHINE with confidence.
Compassionate, child-centered care from an experienced professional.
MEET THE THERAPIST
Janette McAfee, M.S., CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist
Janette's belief in the power of connection through language and play, and her desire to help children and families drew her to the field of Speech and Language Pathology. She earned her Bachelors degree and Masters of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Illinois State University. Janette returned home to California in 2003, and over the past 17 years, has provided speech and language support in the San Francisco Bay area for children ages two through 18 in both schools and private practice.
Janette is licensed by the State of California and holds a certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA), the national association for speech-language pathologists. She is dedicated to strengthening and expanding her clinical skills and knowledge with continuing education coursework. Janette has completed the beginning and advanced courses of Dynamic and Temporal Cueing (DTTC) for the treatment of Apraxia and is trained in Lively Letters™, a multi-sensory reading program that incorporates phonemic awareness, speech production, and phonics.
When clients and colleagues are asked about Janette’s therapy approach they mention her experience, dedication, kindness, and supportive nature. Janette believes parents and caregivers are partners in the therapy process and values their perspectives. She also draws upon her family's own personal experiences with speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy as sources for greater empathy and understanding.

PAYMENT
Shining Light Speech & Language Services is a private pay practice and does not accept insurance at this time. We are, however, happy to provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. All needed CPT procedure/diagnostic codes are included.
We strongly suggest that you talk with your insurance provider to learn about your benefits before our initial meeting. A prescription for speech therapy from your pediatrician is also recommended as it will often increase the chances that if you do have out of network benefits, your insurance company will reimburse you for services.
